I decided to start this blog a few months ago and have admittedly been remise about posting...Then I saw this - which pisses me off in so many ways...So Eating for Brooklyn decided to move to the "Do or Die" had enuf resources to not only purchase, but renovate a brownstone - got robbed like three times and now wants to move because the neighborhood is scary...not to mention all of the idiot posters that agree with him.
Here's the thing - FYI it's the gentrifiers not the thugs that are ruining the hood - I have no sympathy and have to admit I sat giggling evilly as I read about his repeated muggings (not to be totally bitchy, but damn I've been living in Bed-Stuy for over 30 years and have never been mugged - how is it that this mofo gets mugged three times in three years...)to Eating for Brooklyn and all those who share his opinion here's a thought - maybe the neighborhood doesn't want you - PLEASE LEAVE!!!!!

Shes evil but I love her - and I have to say I agree. In high school it was the drug dealer on Lewis Avenue that made sure I got home safely every night after my commute from my East Village school. And since this new crop of residents have moved in, less and less long term residents can afford to say, and its not like they are bringing additional services into the neighborhood. They may sleep in Bed Stuy, but they certainly dont LIVE there.
I don't understand how it's his fault for getting his shit taken. I recently moved here and had my face slammed into a wall in Bushwick before the guys made off with my wallet. What the fuck did I do? I can't afford to live in Manhattan, or Williamsburg, but I have to get my face broken for it?
some blog - laughing at someone for getting robbed three times only shows your immaturity and respect for decency.
I work in Coney Island - a wonderful place if it were cleaned up - but poor folk have to live somewhere. Right? People who can invest or buy into an area to exploit its potential can't be welcome if SOME of the current residents don't or won't.
The same applies to SOME who DON'T own. No respect for what's NOT yours. Unless you step on someone's sneakers or 'look' at them 'wrong'.
Like all bullies - it takes violence to justify their lack of success AND feelings of inadequacy.
Having my apartment and two cars robbed (apt by kids, cars by WHITE men - its a degenerate nature for anyone who wants to steal) I'm sympathetic to EFB, but if he's not black - he's a mark in Do or Die.
If he were a successful black man, would he deserve the same? "Of course not!" Maybe a couple of assholes kids who have no hope of ever making anything of themselves would rob this black man.
The United States is a racist, chauvinist, anti-semitic, narrow-minded society. Yet, two of the most popular candidates for President challenges those characteristics.
Bed-Stuy is a once-and-future model neighborhood of Brooklyn's unique personality. Too bad a bunch of assholes (and the one's who condone their behavior), keep it in the long suffering present.
You want to know why he got mugged 3 times in 3 years and you never have in 30? Because he's white and you're black. You seem to be proud of the fact that your 'hood is full of racist thugs who hate people who dare to have a different skin color.
Remind me to have no sympathy when inevitably you feel discriminated against in the future. Oh, and also remind me to tune out your incessant whining about gentrification when you have no patience for other people who are victimized by one thing or another.
If there's one thing about brothers from Bed-Stuy, or anywhere else in Brooklyn, it's that they love playing the victim... but have no sympathy when anyone else does. Maybe instead of crying for attention you should get a better job or start a business of your own and save some money for your own brownstone.
But then you couldn't be the whiny-ass victim of the white man anymore... such a dilemma.
You're really a piece of work, laughing over someone else's repeated misfortune. I live in Bed-Stuy, and love the community. As in any neighborhood in a big city, I watch my back, and luckily in the 15 years that I've lived in NYC (Harlem and Alphabet City in the 90's, Bushwick 2002-2007) I've never been mugged. That said, my middle aged black neighbor, who grew up in the projects on Myrtle Avenue and who saved up to buy her own brownstone, got mugged last year walking up Stuyvesant Avenue. Her tag line: "You think because I'm black I don't get mugged?". People from all walks of life get mugged in NYC and in BedStuy, as they do in all neighborhoods. It's a sad truth. Laughing at their misfortune isn't sad, it's pathetic.

Indeed, it's really sad that you think he should take a hint and leave, because "no one" wants him there. What did he do to you or anyone else in that neighborhood? He is open minded and bought a place in a neighborhood where he didn't mind living, despite the fact that many racist yuppies warn against this area. Its just sad that the thugs had to confirm the yuppie's stereotypes about the area.
The really sad part about this is that the blogger is too naive and immature to realize what these incidents really mean. They laugh because an innocent man gets attacked, but that's the least of the damage. The other victims of these crimes are the good black people of bed stuy and all of america. This kind of animal behavior just fuels the myth of black americans as low lifes.
Bed Stuy is full of good hard working black americans, caribbeans and africans, but they all get a bad rap because of the criminals that prey on innocent people. But the blogger doesn't get that, she's just content to sit behind her computer screen and giggle on her stupid blog.
Grow up, the longer this shit continues the longer your people are going to be kept in ghettos.
